Hi there,
unfortunately, this attempt at a Portland chapter of Icarus never really properly got off the ground. It was spearheaded by a fellow worker at Laughing Horse Books whom unfortunately had to leave without a chance to really say goodbye or notify people of this.
I would very much like to be a part of a Portland chapter of Icarus and a support group here. A few years back, we had a vibrant group that met at People's Co-op in SE Portland and it was such an important part of my life at that time. We still have space at Laughing Horse Books for these meetings, which is located at 12 NE 10th Ave., just off of Burnside Ave. on the East side of the Williamette River. The meetings could be held after 7 pm M-Sat., when the bookstore is open, or anytime on Sundays. Is there anyone out there from Portland who would be interested in helping me coordinate this?
Please post something back regarding this, if you would be interested in attending these meetings or helping to organize them. Laughing Horse is a great space, and we could have food and radical mental health books there, too, if people are interested. Hope to hear back from someone soon!

Hi, Julia...I would love to help you establish some meetings in Portland! This is a subject matter and a cause near to my heart and I believe it is very much needed in our community. If you are still interested in starting something up, email me and I will send you my contact info and we could start from there. I have worked and am working in the field of graphic design and web design, I believe these skills would be helpful in the future. I am already thinking of some great ideas for a flyer/poster to get some interest brewing for our first meeting!!!
I am excited to hear back from you and to continue something really great and meaningful.
Portland Icarus Project continues!
